    Pro Se Clinic training 6/8

Our Executive Director Ravi Ragbir will be leading and engaging with volunteers as part of a three-level training process designed to strengthen our work, improve coordination, and build a more sustainable and effective system.

    The Training Structure

    This is a three-part / three-level process:

    Level 1: Orientation & Foundations

    • Who we are and our mission
    • Roles and expectations (for both volunteers and friends/clients)
    • Understanding boundaries: what we do and what we do not do
    • Building a shared culture and accountability

    Level 2: Team-Based Work

    • Assignment into functional teams:
      • Translators
      • Interviewers / transcribers
      • Tech and support
      • Legal coordination
    • Learning how to operate within a structured system
    • Clear communication and workflow

    Level 3: Coordination & Leadership

    • Developing coordinators from within the teams
    • Managing clinic flow and supporting others
    • Preparing for court accompaniment and expanded responsibilities
    • Strengthening leadership and consistency across the clinic

    Why This Matters

As Ravi emphasized, this structure is not just about efficiency; it is about building community.

We are creating a space where:

    • Volunteers feel connected, supported, and purposeful
    • Friends (clients) feel guided, respected, and accountable
    • People stay engaged and continue returning to the clinic
    • Our work becomes more organized, impactful, and sustainable

This is also part of a broader shift in how we operate, moving toward a more coordinated, team-based model that allows us to better support people while maintaining clear roles and expectations.

    What to Expect

    • A more structured clinic environment
    • Clear team assignments
    • Defined roles and responsibilities
    • Opportunities to grow into leadership positions
    • Stronger collaboration and community building

All volunteers will be expected to participate in this training process, whether you are new or have been with us for some time.

We are excited to take this next step together and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Please confirm your availability if you are able to attend.

    Meeting for Faith Leaders

We invite faith leaders and allies to join us for a meeting to discuss the administration's chaotic new strategy called "Mega Master" Calendar Hearings, a trap designed to fast-track rapid deportation orders.

Instead of normal, small court dockets, the government will be jamming 100 to 150+ people into a single hearing block before one judge each day. They are pulling this off using intentional tactics:

    • Targeting unrepresented (pro se) folks: The court (EOIR) is intentionally filtering calendars to isolate people who don't have lawyers yet, forcing them through these mass cattle-call hearings before they can find legal help.
    • Surprise calendar changes (no notice): Hundreds of hearing dates are abruptly being moved or advanced on the online portal (ECAS). The scary part? The court is not sending out physical or electronic notices about these changes.
    • Blaming respondents and lawyers: When attorneys confront the court about this complete lack of notice, EOIR’s official stance is pure gaslighting. They are telling lawyers straight up: It’s your job to log in and manually check the portal every single day to see if we changed your client's court date. We aren't responsible for telling you.

Because families have no idea their court dates were moved up, they are missing these surprise hearings. The moment they miss a "Mega Master," the judge issues an automatic deportation order.

This is a manufactured crisis. The government is creating a notification breakdown on purpose to generate thousands of final deportation orders with zero judicial review.

MORE FAITH LEADERS AND VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED FOR DOING ACCOMPANIENT IN THE COURTS AND OUR CLINIC GIVEN THE CHANGES FACING OUR IMMIGRANT FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS.

Court Accompaniment and Witnessing training 6/13

Our accompaniment program generally consists of going into the courthouses as a group, meeting those waiting for hearings (we call them “Friends”), helping friends fill out paperwork, sitting with them through their hearing and walking them out of the building.

Currently, ICE is congregating in the courthouses and kidnapping many of our friends as they are leaving the courtroom. Because of this situation, we are adamant that anyone who wants to accompany with us receives a training by us. Join us at the New Sanctuary Coalition Community Meeting for an in-person training.
