Be a part of the revolutionary effort to support our Friends with their paperwork as they navigate a hostile immigration system. “Pro se” means “for oneself” in Latin, and in legal parlance it refers to people who have are maneuvering legal proceedings without representation. Immigration is a civil matter, not a criminal one, and as such, people facing deportation are not entitled to court-appointed lawyers. And because legal representation is often cost-prohibitive, most people fighting deportation have no choice but to proceed pro se. Each Wednesday, we work in teams to support Friends as they fight for their rights in the court system and beyond.
There will be three trainings:
5pm asylum applications
6pm filing motions to request a virtual hearing (instead of in-person)
7pm SIJS (Special Immigrant Juvenile Status) applications
