Keeping families together and advocating against deportations

Pro Se Clinic

Be a part of the revolutionary effort to support our Friends with their paperwork as they navigate a hostile immigration system. “Pro se” means “for oneself” in Latin, and in legal parlance it refers to people who have are maneuvering legal proceedings without representation. Immigration is a civil matter, not a criminal one, and as such, people facing deportation are not entitled to court-appointed lawyers. And because legal representation is often cost-prohibitive, most people fighting deportation have no choice but to proceed pro se. Each Wednesday, we work in teams to support Friends as they fight for their rights in the court system and beyond.

Trained volunteers, people seeking help with paperwork, and translators (especially fluent Spanish speakers), please arrive at 5:45pm.

New volunteers, if you have a laptop and can work on the computer or are an empathetic listener interested in interviewing Friends, you are highly encouraged to join us for training at 7pm.

At present, our clinic will focus on Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), asylum applications, and work authorizations.
