ICE detained Heury Gómez, a devoted father and sole legal guardian of his medically fragile son, upon arrival from vacation at Newark Airport on August 5, 2025. Days later, agents woke him abruptly in the middle of the night, shackled him, denied him food, and transferred him to a detention center in Michigan - placing him hundreds of miles away from his son, his family, and his legal team.
Heury is a lawful permanent resident who has lived and worked in the U.S. for 20 years. Earlier this year, Bronx Family Court granted him full custody of his U.S. citizen son, Noah, an 18-year-old with profound medical needs requiring daily specialized care. After a long and exhausting custody battle, Heury decided to take a short birthday trip to Mexico as a rare moment of respite. He was looking forward to returning to begin the medical home care training necessary to take on the responsibility of caring for his son. Instead, this long-awaited reunion has been cruelly derailed.
ICE is using misdemeanors from 2015 as justification for Heury’s detention. Heury has always maintained his innocence, and that matter was resolved years ago. It has never defined who he is, nor should it be used now to tear him away from his son.
Heury is a kind, gentle, hardworking, and loving man with a generous spirit. Above all, he adores his son Noah. Caring for Noah brings him pure joy - feeding him, bathing him, and showering him with love. When Noah sees his father, his whole face lights up with laughter. To take that away now is devastating.

Noah ha esperado demasiado tiempo para tener un hogar con su papá, y cada día que Heury sigue detenido es otro día sin el amor y la estabilidad que merece.
