This past Saturday, plain-clothed ICE agents forced their way into a residence owned by Columbia University and detained Mahmoud Khalil, a Green Card-holding permanent resident who had been participating in protests against the war on Gaza and the occupation of Palestine. The Department of Homeland Security has since reported that the order to detain and deport Khalil came specifically from the White House. His whereabouts are currently unknown.
Mahmoud Khali was exercising his freedom of speech and right to protest. His abduction is an affront to the rights of every American, citizen or otherwise, who speaks out. It is an intimidation tactic to silence us. We will not be silenced. We demand his immediate release.
Members of the New Sanctuary Coalition will be joining an emergency rally in support of Mahmoud Khalil today (March 10), 4pm at Federal Plaza (26 Federal Plaza, New York, NY). RSVP for reminders or updates here.
And do remember to sign the petition demanding Khalil’s release.
The resistance starts with you.
