We have some good news to share. If you’ve been a part of our Thursday Community Meetings, you know Peter, a longtime New Sanctuary Coalition member, father, restaurateur, former deportee and detainee, a man who spent days working with paramedics and firefighters at Ground Zero in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. You’ve probably eaten one of his delicious wraps or hors d’oeuvres. And today, after a long collective effort, he was granted clemency from an old conviction by the Governor of New York.
The ill-advised plea deal he took in the 1980s made him vulnerable to the federal government’s racist deportation machine that seeks to rip him from his business, his wife, and his kids. This pardon offers a key layer of protection.

A big thank you goes to everyone who wrote letters, who joined us to speak and pray with Peter and his family. Without you, we wouldn’t have this victory to celebrate.
We are currently working on another pardon campaign, and hope to replicate this victory for more Friends like Peter. Join us by going to our website’s Get Involved section, or coming to one of our Thursday Community Meetings.
